John O' Groats Shakespeare United
Robert Cohen as Shakespeare

“Our very own Will Shakespeare, is torn in two, trying to prevent being quartered, in addition to hanging and drawing. Managing the conflict is the nub of the show. This is a new play, written by Robert Cohen, who also skilfully plays the Bard in this production, directed by Ian Flintoff.” Daily Info, Oxford, April 2010

The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company is a workshop and theatre production company formed by MOBO-award winning hip-hop artist Akala. We look to educate and engage young people in both schools and youth organisations who are considered ‘hard to reach’ and who may not ordinarily be interested in Shakespeare and his work by demonstrating how modern hip-hop shares many similarities with the themes, language and rhythm used by The Bard. We build young people’s self-confidence and unlock their creative and artistic abilities by having them write and perform their own rap lyrics based on a theme from one of Shakespeare’s plays, giving them a platform to showcase their creative ideas and works, and with guidance from leading industry professionals.
- La Compagnie du Cedre
An imaginative exploration of the First Folio - currently in production in France, in English:
John Heminges returns to his house on the site of the Globe Theatre with a precious package: the first edition of William Shakespeare's "Comedies Histories and Tragedies" As John starts to read through the plays, the memories come flooding back - of back stage intrigues, performances, successes and disasters and above all the importance of preserving the writings of a genius who, according to Ben Jonson, "was not of an age, but for all time"
By giving the narrative to what was almost certainly Shakespeare's closest friend, John Heminges, "Gift to the Future" creates a convincing argument over the authorship question "Who wrote Shakespeare?"
